What a day, up at 3:00 am and on our way by 4:00 to the Detroit Airport to leave at 8:00 am.
Still don't know why one has to be there three hours ahead of time as in less than a half hour we were checked in and through customs. Next we landed in Dallas on Time and left on Time and landed in Acapulco about 1:45 just about on the dot.
So by a little after 3:00 pm we were at our apartment enjoying a Corona. So all I can say is that American airlines came through for us.
Sebastián was there waiting for us and what a joy it was to just be able to get into the taxi and go directly to our apartment without stopping at six or seven other places first. Sebastián came in an almost new car to pick us up. And what we have been told about him is all true as he is very knowledgeable about Acapulco and surrounding areas. He showed us some new places and restaurants that have been open for just a few months as well as suggested a few places out of town that I had not heard of. So I'm sure that we will be using his services more in the next few weeks. But in any case we are in Acapulco enjoying the warm weather. After a busy day we decided to just stay at our apartment and get used to the place as it is a big house overlooking the Acapulco bay. We share the house with our land lords Gina and Bob and the other couple staying here, plus the caretakers that work here, Nestor and Simona. So after unpacking I made us a couple of toasted bacon and tomato sandwiches and enjoyed these with a couple of coronas and called it the day.
![]() Now about our apartment at Casa Giovanna; it is located in old Acapulco called Las Playas next to Las Americas up on the hill by B&B disco so we can watch the whole city from there and what a great view. Looking across the bay we are directly across from the Fort of San Diego and the cruise ship docks. From the top of the hill we have a great view of almost the complete bay all the way from the Marina to almost the end of the hotel zone. While we were enjoying our supper we sat and watched the sun set and the lights of the city slowly coming on. There is a Norwegian Cruise ship in town and before it got a little to dark it looked magnificent as the lights came on one by one.
Now as I'm typing this I just had to take a break and enjoy the flickering lights and almost full moon lighting up the city. So I will take a break for today and report more later on anything I find of interest in sunny Acapulco.
Next to the balcony are both coconut trees as well as a large flowering three. The tree attracts a variety of flying creatures including a couple of different humming birds. So there is plenty to keep us busy while we are enjoying our morning cup of coffee. On our floor are also the apartment of the caretakers of the house.
Looking down from our balcony is the third level of the house with a good size swimming pool, outdoor kitchen and living room with TV and radio/CD player. On that lever there is another balcony with a completely different view of the city. But to tell you the truth our view if the best! There are also two more bedroom on the third level that are available for rent on different times of year.
Coming down to the second level is another larger apartment with a small balcony, but again not anywhere near as good as our apartment view. The bottom or first level is the street level with enough room for two cars. So by now you should get the feeling that one has to be in somewhat good shape to live or rent here. Here we use the expression "one does not need to be a mountain goat to live here but it helps". The closest beach is Caleta and my favourite beach area. Playa Caleta is just under a 20 minute walk from our apartment and all down hill.
To go downtown Acapulco or to the hotel and restaurant zone we usually just walk to the Costera or main street and either take a regular bus for 4.5 pesos or an air-conditioned bus for 5.5 pesos.
There are times were we just take a taxi and again it is only 30 pesos to downtown Acapulco or about 50 pesos to the hotel and restaurant zone.
