Alba Suits Hotel
Gran Via Tropical NO 35
Acapulco MX 39390

What can I say about the Alba Suites? Let me go back to the winter of 1989-90 and wow do they bring back memories. We had been to Acapulco a few times as a husband and wife but never as a family. Well that year we wanted to go as a family and keep it a surprise to the children.

Well we could only do that if the price was right and right it was. That year we booked with Sears Travel and even the travel agent was surprised at the low price we got. The cost for the four of us was only $1700.00 Canadian including all taxes and insurance, yes the price was right.

But how would we keep it quit and a surprise for the boys? Of course they knew something was up when they saw us packing the suitcases. So we told them that we were going to Toronto, stay overnight and then watch the airplanes take of the next day. What we did not tell them was we were watching the airplanes take off from the inside of the airplane.

All was working out just fine, but my mom just could not keep it quiet and told them, now know as the BIG Mouth. Of course from that day the boys were having fun trying to keep pretending that they did not know. Finally about two days before we were leaving they could not keep it to themselves either.

Finally the big day came along, and on January 1st 1990 we were on our way. It was quite an experience for all of us as the boys had never been on an airplane before. Back then, before all the terrorism, the boys along with about another 5 other children were able to visit the cockpit of the airplane. We had a video camera and the boys took all kinds of video tape that I'm sure they wore out in the years to come as they showed all their friends many times over.

After about a four and a half hour flight we landed in Acapulco Mexico. It took the usual 45 minute to get out of the airport and on our way to the Alba Suits. The first thing the boys were impressed with was the welcome Corona, and yes they had their own Corona.

Finally checking into our room, we soon found out that the name suites was a little deceiving as they were not the usual suites one is accustomed to. Actually my wife Jane and a, well I will call it a disappointing experience as there was very little space for us to put our stuff. Well after sitting her down and letting her know that we are there for two weeks and we can either have a grate time or not. Well a great time we did have as it was one of the best memories we have of the many vacations we took with the boys.

At that time they had three pools and I must say the boys made the best use of them as they were in it as soon as they got up until breakfast and again after we got back from Caleta Beach. And they were in the pool until it was time to go to bed. They also had what they called a salt water pool, but that we nothing more than an wall build next to the water at the Yacht Club. Now they have a great waterslide and pool in the same spot, a great spot for children of course.

Our room had a Kitchenette and with a family that is a great idea as kids will usually only want cereals for breakfast whereas we may enjoy bacon and eggs. Of course back in the nineties the all inclusive hotels were not heard of. Now the advantage to having a kitchenette was that we could invite and entertain friends. End entertain we did, not only or Mexican friends we had met a few years before but also Max, Edna, Jack and Theresa who stayed at the Turtuga.

Max and Edna still talk about the big stack of steaks and mash potatoes I made. Of course the Black Russians, made with Kahlua and Vodka were also going down real easy. If I'm not mistaken at that time a bottle of Kahlua was like only 2-3 dollars.

At the time we were there they had like two hotel units and building more. It looks like they now have about 3 or 4 hotel building with 152 Guest Rooms as the travel brochure says. One other thing that we liked about the hotel was the location. It was located in a Peaceful Residential area. At the time they also had a bakery on the corner right next to the hotel and I still can remember the great bread and fresh buns we got from them every morning.

One other plus is the location as it is build overlooking the Spectacular Yacht Club and one of the most Wonderful View Of Acapulco. It is close to Caleta Beach and so we walked there just about everyday even tough we had a bus that went there daily. We did use the hotel bus to some of the other beaches around Acapulco. The hotel is also surrounded by Beautiful Gardens as well as already stated a great waterslide for the kids.

There are other services the hotel offers, however it would most likely be better to check with your tour guide r travel agent. Or have a look at their official webpage at Alba Suites Acapulco

Just one note on the pictures; right now all the pictures are from my last trip in 2003 on my walk around the Gran Via Tropical. A walk that I have taken about three times around that part of old Acapulco. I will add some pictures from 1990 when I get time to scann the slides/transparencies that I took.
