The big question, how safe is it? Well, AJ Hackett Bungy is the world's first bungy company. It all started in New Zealand and there are now sites on three different continents. They have jumped over 2 million people in over 15 years in 8 different countries, having a perfect safety record. It is one of the newest extreme sports consisting on jumping to the void from a bridge or platform. The jumper is tied to an elastic cord that generates a bouncing effect that adds an extra dose of adrenaline to the adventure. If you get the opportunity ask to see the bungee cord you will see that it is not made of a single elastic cord but hundreds of smaller elastics making up a good and secure bungee cord.
The 50 meter (161 feet) bungy tower is a unique experience for all adrenaline and thrill seekers. Al jumps are performed by high quality, skilled Jump Masters and over a security pool which guarantees your safety. I had the opportunity to spend some time on the bungee tower, almost three hours to be exact and it was quite and experience. The operators of the bungee or bungy tower are very knowledgeable and each operator will jump many times each week sometime many times on a busy day to get other to jump as well. And by the way, take a close look at the picture and you will notice that they are jumping from the roof of the bungee tower station, maybe they believe that 161 feet is just not high enough, so they add that extra 8 feet and jump off the roof!
You might have noticed that there are actually three bungee cords hanging from the tower. Well they are made of different strengths and thicknesses so that they can select the size or thickness of the cord depending on how heavy you are or if you are jumping by yourself or if you are doing a tandem or jump with a friend. So you might find a couple jumping, boyfriend and girlfriend or father and son or daughter.
Now I also found out another interesting idem; standing there watching the jumpers you might have noticed that some touch the water whereas other don't even come close. Well that is not a mistake by the operators but the option of the jumper as they have the option to touch the water and actually tell the operator if they just want to touch or if they want to go waist deep. That is another way that shows how much control they have of the jump.
They also have a board that keeps track of how many jumps are made with each bungee cord. Now they told me that each bungee cord is good for 1000 jumps but after 500 jumps they replace the bungee cord, so yes they have your safety in mind and maybe that is why they have a good safety record. So if you are ready for a trill, then this is for you.
