This lovely hotel which was built back in the thirties and is located on top of the highest cliffs of Acapulco, 450 feet high, with spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean and "La Roqueta" island.
It enjoys a unique location, allowing a view of magnificent sunsets and a continuous breeze from the ocean through the lush vegetation of our gardens.
The hotel is situated very close to "La Quebrada" where the famous high cliff divers perform daily. It is also five minutes away from "Caleta" and "Caletilla" beaches, La Roqueta island, the bullring and the main square.
Back in 2003 we stopped there for a little while on our tour, but not long enough to really get the flavor of the hotel. The information here are mostly from their official website at flamingosacapulco.com and some other information from books and web pages.
So in 2006 we are planning on going back and stay for the afternoon and evening. I believe it's the only way one will really get to know the hotel. My photographs on this page exhibit this unique hotel, its location and magnificent views of the Pacific Ocean and "La Roqueta" island. So check back in the New Year when I will have a better story to tell on this hotel.
One can almost call it a historical monument, as this hot-pink, cliff-side hotel was a favorite hangout of co-owners John Wayne and Johnny ("Tarzan") Weissmuller. Weissmuller liked to stay in the circular two-bedroom master suite.
I have been told that a young busboy at the hotel in those days, Adolfo Santiago, is now the owner. And that He plays an amazing guitar and, if in the mood, will share some good stories.
Today Los Flamingos draws an international clientele for its fine views and its
Coco Locos, tequila drinks served in a green coconut. And I must say it is one of my favorites and take my word for it when I say that every visitor to Acapulco should try at least ones. After all it is Acapulco's signature concoctions.
