The information on the many restaurants and eateries are from personal experiences having enjoyed a meal and from the friends at Tripadvisor.com. You will find that the prices at restaurant around the Zócalo are less expensive and get higher as you move from the old town to the peninsula to the newer section. Such as Costa Azul, at the eastern end of the Bay and up at Las Brisas down by the Princess and Mayan Palace. It is also my hopes that after looking at the list and you notice that your favourite place to eat is missing that you will inform me so that I can add it to the list. Also if you wish to add anything to the description of any of the listed places, please feel free to email me at fredsphotography@rogers.com

Madeiras TOP - on the Escénica in the Las Brisas area. Stunning views of the Bay. four-course "fixed-price" dinner, have been there many years ago, but all I can remember is that the food was great.
All tables at this elegant restaurant have views of the bay, and the dishes and flatware were created by Taxco silversmiths. In the bar-reception area, groovy coffee tables have glass tops resting on carved wooden animals. Dinner is a four-course, prix-fixe meal, and there are 15 menus from which to choose. Specialties include tasty chilled soups and a delicious red snapper baked in sea salt (a Spanish dish); there are also steak choices, lobster tail, chicken, and pork. Reservations essential. No lunch.
La Vela TOP - at Camino Real. Specializing in seafood. On a wharf that juts out into Bahía de Puerto Marqués, this casual open-air dining spot has wooden floors and a dramatic roof that simulates a huge white sail. It's particularly atmospheric after dark, when the lights of Puerto Marqués flicker in the distance. There are several fish and shellfish dishes on the menu, but the specialty is the red snapper à la talla (basted with chili and other spices and broiled over hot coals).
Su Casa TOP - This restaurant serves up some wonderful frozen margaritas, great for steaks and chicken as well as fish. I have not been but it is also on the top of my list for January 2007. Su Casa also has an adjoining sister restaurant, La Margarita, has its own "Mexican" menu - which is sometimes offered at Su Casa as well ..... if that interests you at all. This beautiful restaurant is worth visiting, with its large terrace which offers a romantic environment with a view of Acapulco bay and a trio that performs live music here every night. The quality of its food is excellent; you will be able to savour a delicious fish fillet in butter and saffron, or the chicken breast in mustard dressing. The desserts are also extraordinary, and the most outstanding is the frozen cheesecake with cranberries and whipped cream, which you can accompany with delicious coffee liquor or a sparkling wine.
Le Jardín des Artistes TOP - French, Tables at this thoroughly French garden hideaway have fresh flowers and Tiffany lamps, and discreet waiters deliver dishes made rich by classic cream and butter sauces. The stylish interior has a large sunken dining area, original sculptures, and huge bay windows looking out to sea. Patrons rave about the fettuccine with smoked salmon in avocado sauce and the charcoal-grilled sea bass with shrimp and artichokes in a citrus sauce. For a light ending to your meal, try the gelato. Music videos are projected on large screens on weekends. No lunch.
Ristorante Casanova TOP - This spectacular restaurant is nestled into a hillside in the exclusive Las Brisas area of Acapulco. The entrance, which is located on the Scenic Drive, is a lovely glass enclosed atrium which features an enormous fresh flower arrangement to welcome guests. A spiral marble staircase will take you to the main reception area below where a friendly maitre'd will attend to your reservation.

Choose vegetables, baked potato or rice as a side dish. Great cuts of beef, grilled chicken breasts, soups and desserts are also available. All of this is in a distinguished and peaceful atmosphere. The service is pleasant and of the highest quality. Open Hours 1p-10p M-Su http://www.tonyromas.com
El Jardín Las Hamacas hotel TOP - One of the advantages of this restaurant is its perfect location inside the Las Hamacas hotel. Restaurant patrons can enjoy the large swimming pool and also take a walk in the gardens. The food here is mostly Mexican, but you can find a few international dishes. The service and cuisine are very good. The decoration, a thatched roof on the edge of the swimming pool, is fresh and simple. The garden is a good choice to spend a pleasant day.
Carlos 'n' Charlie's TOP - Carlos 'n' Charlie's aren't big on authentic Mexican culture, but it is an Acapulco landmark. It also cultivates controlled craziness: prankster waiters, a joke-filled menu, and eclectic decorations. Picture a frat-house party where you don't know your fellow partiers and where the waiters are the hired talent. The crowd is mostly young and relaxed, and the menu straddles the border with ribs, stuffed shrimp, and oysters among the best offerings. And of course it has been a favourite place to eat and enjoy time with friends.
Hacienda TOP - Mexican, Personable, efficient waiters dress as classy charros (Mexican cowboys with silver-studded outfits) and mariachis entertain at this restaurant in a colonial hacienda, once a millionaire's estate. The menu has such dishes as sautéed oysters from Loreto (Baja California) served with chile-poblano mousseline. Seafood and chateaubriand made with Black Angus tenderloin are specialities. On Sundays, there's a champagne brunch for $25. No lunch. Closed Mon.
Hard Rock Cafe TOP - American, This link in the international Hard Rock chain is one of Acapulco's most popular spots, among locals as well as visitors. The New York-cut steaks, hamburgers, and brownies, as well as the Southern-style fried chicken and ribs are familiar and satisfying. Taped rock music begins at noon, and a live group starts playing at 11 PM (except Tuesday).
La Mansión TOP - An excellent steakhouse on the Costera in the Golden Zone. No "spectacular" views & not overlooking the Bay, but this place DOES offer excellent service & fare! This restaurant appears to specialize in "beef" - lots of steak choices, prepared many different ways!
Le Bistroquet TOP - It bills itself as a restaurant with an "international cuisine" [although a number of their dishes were, in fact, "French"
Dino's TOP - Italian almost across from the bungee jumping tower, specializing in Italian food. It has been a while since I have been but from what I can remember a great place to eat. Dino's is an Italian restaurant with a view of the coastline. Daily, during the winter season, it opens its doors for people to enjoy a scrumptious dinner by candlelight. Inside it has an ample terrace, which is made up of comfortable private booths where personal attention makes you feel like royalty as you listen to the background music and savor its pasta specialties. Locals recommend the Spinach lasagna and the Spaghetti and Meatballs, which in spite of its overwhelming portion, you will finish because it is so delicious. So, bring a good appetite, eat great food, and accompany it with white wine from Baja California. Open Hours 7p-11p M-Su
El Faro TOP - Spanish and seafood restaurant. In front of the El Cano hotel - Classy El Faro resembles a lighthouse, right down to its nautical interior, with portholes and gleaming sculptures that evoke anchors and waves. Spanish chef Jorge Pereira adds Basque and Mediterranean touches to his original creations. For starters, there's a lettuce salad with goat cheese, dried wild fruits, and herb-infused olive oil. Favorite main dishes are haddock with clams and seared tuna medallions with baby onions. Reservations essential.
El Gaucho TOP - An Argentine steakhouse located at El Presidente hotel. El Gaucho serves Argentine food, the specialty being meats, both national and international cuts of the best quality. One of the bigger attractions is the the large grill where all the meats are prepared. Aregntenian pictures and motifs and the comfortable wooden furniture best exemplify the decor. This restaurant has a very complete wine list to accompany your meal and always provides excellent service.
El Jaguar TOP - Regional & coastal cuisine of Guerrero.
Linda Vista TOP - good filet mignon and a beautiful view of the Bay - al fresco. I have not been but it is on my list for January 2007.
O'Jardim TOP - Owner /chef, one-of-a-kind place for meat at about us$18/pp
El Olvido TOP - located in Marbella center on Diana Circle overlooking the beach. Here, there is a different culinary concept offered, for the dishes are a combination of European and Mexican cuisine. The final result is a fusion of exotic flavors that have to be tasted to be believed, such as the Octopus Salad in Mango Dressing, or Filet of Huachinango Fish dressed in butter and three citrus juices. A modern terrace on the edge of the beach, illuminated by candles and with a view of the bay, guarantees a wonderful evening. Open Hours 6p-midnight M-Su
El Pescador TOP - The Hyatt Hotel seafood restaurant.
Suntory TOP - Costa Azul. Japanese, You can dine in the delightful Asian-style garden or in an air-conditioned room. Suntory is one of Acapulco's few Japanese restaurants and one of the few deluxe places that's open for lunch. Many diners opt for the teppanyaki (thin slices of beef and vegetables seared on a hot grill), prepared at your table by skilled chefs. Rib eye and seafood are also on the menu, but not sushi. http://www.suntory.co.jp/restaurants/acapulco.html
Zapata, Villa & Companía TOP - traditional Mexican cuisine at the Hyatt Hotel. The music and the food are strictly local, and the memorabilia recall the Mexican Revolution -- guns, hats, and photographs of Pancho Villa. Often the evening's highlight is a visit from a sombrero-wearing baby burro, so be sure to bring your camera. The menu includes the ever-popular fajitas, tacos, and grilled meats. No lunch.
Los Flamingos TOP - Exception: on the peninsula and the place to watch an Acapulco sunset from high atop the cliffs. And also one of the best places for Pozole Thursdays. And a must on my list for every visit to Acapulco.
Palma Real TOP - This little restaurant located inside the Villa Vera hotel, on top of a mountain, is of excellent quality and elegance. The dining area is surrounded by wide windows which allow a complete view of the bay and their swimming pool. In the morning you can enjoy the complete breakfast buffets, and in the afternoon and evening you can savour their exquisite fine international dishes such as Huachinango Fillet in Lobster Sauce, or the Fillet with three kinds of pepper. Their wine list includes some imported wines, but the ones that stand out are the national wines from Baja California. We have this place marked for our 2007 vacation for the buffet breakfast and a visit to the Villa Vera hotel. Open Hours 7a-3:30p M-F, 7a-10:30p Sa-Su
El Embarcadero TOP - From the moment you walk into this restaurant, plants surround you. A tunnel made from vines and a wooden bridge welcome you and you soon realize that you are in a paradise of waterfalls, artificial rivers and ornamental plants surrounding your candlelit table. The food is no less spectacular; you will find a variety of international foods of which the seafood dishes are a must, all top-quality and prepared with special Mexican spices.
San & Town TOP - This restaurant offers a fusion of two major oriental culinary practices: Chinese and Japanese. The dining area is spacious and the air-conditioning keeps it fairly cool. At the far end of the establishment, there is a Chinese fountain with small tables placed around it, where one can enjoy a cocktail or after-dinner liquor. The chef's culinary skills are indisputable, with dishes such as Chop Suey, Sweet-and-sour Ribs and Egg Rolls that never fail to awaken the appetite. Open Hours 5:30p-1:30a M-Su
Costa Romanza TOP - As its name indicates, romance is the word here, with Mediterranean-style decorations and tables lit by candlelight. Guests can admire the Acapulco bay at night, framed by the moon and the stars, from outdoor seating (decorated as a dock filled with streetlights) or from the air-conditioned indoor dining area, which is no less beautiful. Its Italian specialties include Veal Parmesan and Vezantio (pasta and shrimp) are a treat, accompanied with good wine to make your dinner perfect. Open Hours 8p-2a Tu-Su
Don Carlos Restaurant TOP - With photographs of great celebrities from all over the world, Don Carlos is a restaurant, which has live music every evening so you can dance as you enjoy delicious international food. An example is the Beef Fillet in Red Wine with Spinach puree or the delicious Grilled Fish with Brown Rice and Glazed Vegetables. Their ample bar allows you enjoy many different drinks and cocktails; here you will also make great friends, for you can sit at your table or stand at the bar and chat with whoever wishes to do so, thanks to the wonderful and friendly atmosphere. Open Hours Breakfast: 7:30a-noon, Lunch & Dinner: 1p-10:30p
Los Cazadores TOP - This restaurant is very famous in Acapulco, so much so that a number of celebrities have visited it, which you may confirm by viewing the autographs and photographs on the walls. The house specialty is the green pozole with delicious snacks, accompanied with beer. However, what makes this place original is that while you eat, transvestites perform the most spectacular and comical imitations of fashionable singers. Be sure you make a reservation because they are usually booked up.
Los Rancheros TOP - Of all the Mexican food restaurants, this would be the least recommended, however on Thursdays, it is very nice to go and eat the traditional green pozole, accompanied by delicious pork rinds, fresh cheese, fried tacos and avocado, in a great atmosphere including a Mariachi band. The view offered from the terrace of its dining room is attractive, for it looks out onto most of Acapulco bay, and you can feel a fresh breeze. After enjoying the food, it is nice to have a drink in their piano bar.
Salón Q TOP - If you are one of those people who like Latin rhythms, Salon Q is the place for you. Here they play salsas, cumbias, tropical songs and quebraditas. They also have a show of celebrity impersonators and dancers at midnight. On weekends bands play live. The atmosphere is a happy one, of people who are mostly 30 or older. The cover charge of MXN170, includes an open bar where national drinks are served. Open Hours 10p-5a M-Su
Correo Español TOP - A beautiful terrace with a view of the sea is surely one of the highlights of this restaurant, especially since Acapulco's tropical breeze always cools the outside tables. Correo Español specializes in fine cuts of beef, but also offers popular fish and seafood dishes.
Beto's TOP - seafood at Playa Condesa just past the Fiesta Americana hotel
La Perla TOP - With international cuisine, this restaurant puts on its long tablecloths daily to welcome its visitors from all over the world. One of the great attractions here is that it is very near La Quebrada, where the divers put on a show that, throughout Acapulco's history, has captivated the audiences. The service is warm an attentive; in the candlelight, you will be able to enjoy excellent dishes, such as the Shellfish or the Fillet in Hollandaise Sauce. I have had a small meal there and it is not on ethat I would recommend for a good meal, however the location to watch the cliff divers is a great attraction.
Open Hours 7p-11p-Su http://www.hotelelmiradoracapulco.com.mx/
El Cabrito TOP - Mexican & varied menu - cheeses - very good meats - specialty is kid.
As the name implies, goat - served charcoal-grilled - is a specialty of this restaurant, open since 1963. You can also choose from among such truly Mexican dishes as chicken in mole (spicy chocolate-chili sauce); shrimp in tequila; and jerky with egg, fish, and seafood. Wash it down with a cold beer or glass of wine. The house specialty here is Broiled Cabrito (kid goat) served with Charro Beans. It is a characteristic dish of the Northern part of Mexico, accompanied by flour tortillas and hot sauce and of course a cold beer or Mexican tequila to wash it down.
La Cabaña TOP - Seafood, This one of my favourite places as is Caleta Beach. In the 1950s this local favorite was a bohemian hangout that attracted renowned bullfighters along with Mexican songwriter Agustín Lara and his lady love, María Félix. You can see their photo over the bar and sample the same dishes that made the place famous back then: baby-shark tamales, seafood casserole, or shrimp prepared with sea salt, curry, or garlic. The restaurant is smack in the middle of Playa Caleta, and there are free lockers for diners who want to take a swim, as well as banana and wave-runner rentals.
Casa de Tere TOP - Mexican - closed Mondays - close to the Costera near Club del Sol
Fersato's TOP - Mexican - Costa Azul across from CiCi Water Park. This restaurant is especially attractive for its high arches and cast iron, replicating the type of small plaza traditionally found in Mexican country haciendas (big estate houses favored by the landed gentry.) As one might expect, the food is similarly inspired. Everything from simple tacos de albañil (crunchy pork cracklings garnished with avocado, onion, tomato, coriander and chili peppers) to the delicious tampiqueña meat dish (a tender cut of beef fried or roasted,) accompanied by enchiladas (maize tortilla filled with chicken and garnished with a mole chili and chocolate spice sauce,) beans and totopos (fried maize tortillas,) and an oil fried golden taco are on the menu. Aside from evening meals, breakfast is also served.
Villa Fiore TOP - An Italian food restaurant with exceptional atmosphere and ambiance. The exterior is not spectacular, but as soon as you walk through a large wooden door, you will feel like you are in one of Italy's antique buildings. Beautiful pillars and fountains surround the 'cobble-stone plaza' where the candle-lit tables are located, and excellent service makes you feel at home. We recommend that you make a reservation, because this is a very popular place.
El Fogón TOP - Serving a variety of typical Mexican dishes, this restaurant is on the coast and has a façade that looks very much like the terrace of a Mexican hacienda. The menu includes Pozole (a stew incorporating grains of maize and strips of pork in a creamy broth,) Menudo (beef tripe cooked in a red spicy sauce) and all sorts of meat dishes. The house specialty is the Molcajete, a plate for two served in a Mexican spice-grinding bowl, and consisting of fried cured meat, chorizo sausage, beef and chicken fajita meat, avocado, salted pork cracklings, beans, prickly pears and cheese. Open Hours 9a-1a M-Su
Forza Italia TOP - Italian
La Mansión de Lilia Marino TOP - Mexican - open Thursdays from afternoon, Exception: located near B&B Disco on the peninsula - extensive menu
Paradise TOP - seafood on the beach at Playa Condesa. One of my favourite for late night dancing as well. Located on Condesa beach, in one of the port's most exclusive zones, this restaurant includes a full range of international cuisine on its menu, prepared by chefs who specialize in seafood dishes. Quality and freshness is always assured, which you can see for yourself just by taking a look at the size and juiciness of their prawns bathed in garlic, or the fish in red sauce garnished with spices.
Pipo's TOP - seafood - Costa Azul near El Cabrito. On a rather quiet stretch of the Costera, this old, family-run restaurant doesn't have an especially interesting view, but locals come here for the fresh fish, good service, and reasonable prices for most dishes. Try the huachinango veracruzano (red snapper baked with tomatoes, peppers, onion, and olives) or the fillet of fish in mojo de ajo (garlic butter). The original location downtown is also popular with locals.
Other location: Calle Almirante Bretón 3, Old Acapulco, PHONE: 744/482-2237.
Sanborn's TOP - Downtown exception: classic Mexican cuisine near the Zócalo. Special lunches are a bargain. The menu offers the most varied breakfast, lunch and dinner choices, but the outstanding dish is the delicious Swiss enchiladas, made of corn tortillas filled with chicken, and bathed in green hot sauce and then sprinkled with melted cheese and served hot at your table. Notably, the award-winning coffee is very good. Open Hours 7a-11p M-Su
Senor Frog's TOP - In the American style, with a beautiful view of the bay and the best atmosphere of Acapulco, is the concept which defines the lively Sr. Frog's. Here you can enjoy a great variety of dishes such as garlic spaghetti, beef fillet in tequila, and even fish fillet in coriander dressing. Of course, the ample beverage bar allows you to choose what best fits your drinking tastes. Also, when you least expect it, a beautiful waitress will come to your table in tiny shorts and a tight T-shirt, to invite you to drink a "Muppet," which is traditionally downed in a single gulp.
Open Hours Daily 10p-1a
Tera Luna TOP - across from El Cabrito in Costa Azul
La Tortuga TOP - Mexican -Exception: in the Golden Zone to the east - outdoor setting near the Costera
La Casa de Tere TOP - Mexican, Hidden in a shopping district downtown (signs point the way), this spotless open-air eatery with pink walls is in a league of its own -- expect beer-hall tables and chairs, colorful Mexican decorations, and photos of Acapulco of yore. The varied menu includes outstanding sopa de tortilla (tortilla soup), chicken mole, and flan. No credit cards. Closed Mon.
Hooters TOP - The perfect place to enjoy a football game or a boxing match, this restaurant and bar is stocked with plenty of televisions and good food. Chicken, hamburgers, and hot dogs are the standard fare and a variety of beers are available to quench your thirst. The restaurant is air-conditioned, and there is also a terrace with a nice view of the coast. Open Hours 6p-12:30a M-Su
La Langosta Loca TOP - Recently remodeled, this fresh and beautiful restaurant is recommended for enjoying a dinner in which you will be able to savor dishes, mainly of fish and seafood. Among them, the 'Crazy Lobster' is outstanding, prepared on a grill with butter and garlic and bathed in cheese sauce, accompanied by sauteed vegetables and wild rice. An ideal characteristic of this place is its location on the seashore. As candles light the tables, the sound of the sea and background music give your dinner a romantic touch. Open Hours Noon-midnight M-Su
Dragón de Oro TOP - The specialty of this modest restaurant is the variety of shellfish dishes. Its location, right on Caletilla beach, guarantees a constant supply of fresh, quality seafood at reasonable prices. The decoration has been kept quite simple and is typical of the coastal region, with a roof made of palapa (intertwined palm leaves,) a floor of sand, which is really just the beach itself, and even some comfortable hammocks to hang around in. Visitors are also urged to try the Huachinango in Garlic (a large fish with tender meat and an appetising flavour.)
Planet Hollywood TOP - This is one ne of the most attractive and spectacular restaurants, not only in Acapulco, but also in all of Mexico. The decoration is made up of large photographs and mannequins of the most famous big-screen celebrities of all time. They also have a large amount of original objects used in Hollywood films, for example, the Terminator's gun, or the flashlight used in the movie 'Alien'. They put on videos and music from films to enhance the atmosphere, while you enjoy a pizza, hamburger, sandwiches and cocktails, which are named after famous characters.
La Flor de Acapulco TOP - on the Zócalo. Good for Mexican dishes, cocktails or just a coffee. Not the cheapest on the square but a pleasant spot to linger, and a popular meeting place for travelers. Plus one of my favourites as it's up on the second floor and so a great place to watch all the activities going on.
La Cabaña de Pedro TOP - on the road to the Bull Ring, on the right just after you turn off the Costera at the Farmacia de Ahorro, and before you get to the VW and Honda dealers. If you DO go that far, turn right at the traffic light (on a bad road) and left again at the intersection. La Cabaña is on your left.
100% Natural TOP - Along the Costera Miguel Alemán are several of these 24-hour restaurants specializing in quick service and light, healthful food: sandwiches made with whole-wheat bread, soy burgers, chicken dishes, yogurt shakes, fruit salads.
El Amigo Miguel TOP - Locals rave about this place and keep it abuzz at all hours. The seafood is fresh, the portions are ample and well-priced, and it's in a convenient downtown location right off the Zócalo. A second-floor balcony provides a view of the bay. Feast on fish soup, whole grilled sea bass, fish fillet in a buttery garlic sauce, or lobster. All come with sides of rice and warm bread.
Julio's TOP - Seafood, The locals rave about Julio's, where they know they'll get a great variety of fresh seafood at an affordable price. There is nothing fancy here except the fresh authentic Mexican dishes served by friendly folks. Try the shrimp tacos or the barbecued whole fish, preceded by a large seafood cocktail. A fish filet dinner costs less than $7. Most tourists haven't found this place yet, so for a great cultural and dining experience that won't empty your wallet, this is the place.
El Zorrito's TOP - Mexican, again one of my favourites as it was when Julio Iglesias is in town, he heads to this open-air street-side eatery after the discos close. It's open almost all the time, serving Acapulco's famous green-and-white pozole (pork and hominy soup) as well as such steak dishes as filete tampiqueña (a strip of tender grilled beef), which comes with tacos, enchiladas, guacamole, and beans. Open 24 hrs. expt Tues., Closed 7am-3pm
La Flor Y Mariscos TOP - We'll be planning to try that local eatery in January - as it's on our own list of places to eat. (based on Need4Speed's recommendation).
But - if you can simply hop an eastbound Costera bus from Las Playas, it's not hard to reach at all. After you pass the mid-Bay glorietta Diana, ask to get off just past the Hotel Calinda ... in front of the Pizza Hut (which is on the inland side of the boulevard). That side-street is called Avenida de los Deportes ... and La Fl@r is just a stone's throw up that street (on the right, I believe).
La Torta TOP - At this restaurant, guests dine in a very romantic atmosphere. The decor imitates a small Mexican plaza lit with lanterns, adorned with steel banisters, brick floor, and pots filled with beautiful flowers. The menu offers delicious Mexican food, and it is best characterized by its breaded steak tortas. This is a reasonably priced place to spend an unforgettable evening in Mexico. If you feel like doing a little dancing after dinner, go next door to the disco. Open Hours 2p-midnight Tu-Su
Restaurante Bellavista TOP - This restaurant is a place where you can try international foods of the highest level; each dish is presented as a work of art with exotic flavors. Its name comes from the fact that it is located in one of the highest and most exclusive areas of Acapulco, which overlooks the entire beautiful port bay. All of this in a elegant atmosphere and a terrace covered in flowering plants makes for a lovely dining experience. The service is known for being pleasant and attentive, which completes the elements of a delightful evening. Open Hours 5p-11p M-Su
Miramar TOP - The name of the restaurant, Miramar (meaning sea view), provides the perfect description as you will enjoy a view of Acapulco bay at night that is spectacular. The food that Miramar offers is international style, with excellent quality and service. All of this in fine and comfortable top-level facilities. Miramar was voted as one of the most romantic restaurants of the port, and guarantees an unforgettable evening.
Carnitas La Esperanza TOP - Delicious and original pork cooked Michoacán-style is the specialty of the house here. But it doesn't end there, the restaurant also offers Gorditas, which are corn dough circles filled with pork rinds and fried in pork fat. You can season them with onions, coriander and the hot sauce of your preference. The daily menu is complete with soup, many main dishes, beans, rice, tortillas, fresh fruit beverages, and dessert for really low prices. Carnitas La Esperanza is located in the picnic area of the Gran Plaza, so you can order your food and then choose the table you'd like.
Los Caporales TOP - This is a fairly exclusive taco house that offers a variety of fillings, among which are the highly recommended La Tinga (steak or chicken cooked in tomato and spices,) Chicharrón (pork skins,) Molleja (a strong tasting chicken concoction,) Picadillo (mince meat and sliced vegetables,) Mole (mixed chili sauce with spices such as chocolate,) and the specialty of the house known as El Placero that consists of pork skins, avocado, onion, tomato and chili, all eaten with hot corn-flour...
Paco's TOP - This restaurant's specialty is seafood, and the chefs' seasoning is so good that Mexican celebrities come here often. Paco's is located in the traditional downtown area of Acapulco, and although the decor is not precisely luxurious (it has a thatched roof and nautical ornaments such as nets, hooks and wet suits,) and without a doubt, the value here is the food and good service.
El Fuerte del Virrey TOP - Distinction, flavorful food, and history combine in this international specialty restaurant. The restaurant is quite interesting; the building resembles a fort built in Acapulco at the beginning of the 19th century. Inside, the decoration is refined and displays the owner's great taste. There is also a small museum exhibiting works of art by prominent Mexican artists. The pleasantness and efficiency of the staff is top-notch. Open Hours 8p-11p M-Su
El Mayab TOP - Although far from the Yucatan, you can still enjoy its delicious food, this restaurant offers the most traditional dishes of the beautiful Yucatán region. The combination of well-flavoured ingredients, allows the visitor to enjoy a great variety of choices such as Panuchos (maize tortillas stuffed with a bean paste and meat fried in lard and garnished with chopped onions); Stuffed Cheese (a typical Yucatán dish based on cheese and chicken or beef); or venison. All of which can be accompanied by a dark malt beer, also derived from this region. Customers are offered the choice of dining in an air-conditioned environment or outside on a small terrace, watching the tourists pass by. The service provided by the owners and waiting staff is cheerful and fast.
El Capullo Caletilla beach TOP - This restaurant offers fresh seafood dishes in a traditional thatched roof building on Caletilla beach, so you couldn't be in a better coastal atmosphere. If you decide to visit, order the fish quesadillas or sopes for an appetizer. Afterwards, try the house specialty, talla-style fish, seasoned and marinated in chili peppers and then broiled, accompanied by a cold and refreshing beer.
Cocula TOP - Most guests are immediately taken by the big sombrero on this restaurant's ceiling, but that's not the only amazing thing here. Fresh American cuts of beef, sauteed vegetables, handmade tortillas, and a good variety of wines have made this place quite popular. Traditional pozole, menudo and tacos are also on the menu. A terrace, which overlooks the golden coastline, tables lit by candlelight, Mexican music and boleros, and lush plants, make for a romantic evening.
La Mansión Bohemia TOP - If there is something for which Acapulco is known, it's the traditional green pozole, a mixture of chicken broth, corn, pork rinds, fresh cheese and onion, accompanied by delicious snacks like tacos, fried and filled with potatoes, avocado and tostadas. You will find these delicacies in the Mansión Bohemia, a restaurant property of Alicia Marino, a singer from Acapulco who entertains lunchtime visitors with beautiful songs from the state of Guerrero. There is also a trio who will be happy to play any song you request. All of this fun and flavor is on a terrace with a swimming pool and tropical atmosphere.
Plaza Francia TOP - This is a modest, small restaurant located near Francia beach. Its specialties are seafood and Mexican snack food. The decoration is simple, typical of the coast, with a thatched roof ceiling and plastic furniture, but without a doubt, what makes this place valuable is the exquisite seasoningsand the warm attention provided by the staff. The location is great: walk a few steps to and you're on the beach.
Buda TOP - Located at Carretera escenica, s/n Acapulco 39686 Mexico s/t
El Norteño TOP - In the heart of Caletilla beach, this eatery welcomes you with fresh, ample sized shellfish and fish, caught by its own fishermen every day. Specialties of the house include the Talla (garnished with spices and red sauce) which is prepared with huachinango (a large sea fish that has tender meat): diners may choose the size of fish they want to consume. The restaurant also has a beach service, with attractive palapa parasols (made from woven palm branches) offering shelter from the sun.
La Casona del Granjero TOP - This restaurant is 100 percent Mexican, with all sorts of original dishes created by their own chefs. These include Squid filled with Pumpkin Flower in Chilli Sauce, and Filet of Fish covered in Epazote Leaves (a strong-flavored local herb). There are also more than thirty types of tequila available to suit all tastes and budgets. The decoration has a stable theme about it, with such elements as horseshoes, saddles, a space that resembles a loft, and even bails of straw.
Tamales Los Braseritos TOP - This restaurant offers typical Native American food like tamales (a mass of ground-maize garnished with a spicy sauce and pieces of meat,) which are a characteristic dish of the indigenous culture, found in different forms all the way from Mexico to Chile. Traditionally cooked wrapped in corn leaves, the tamales here are normally accompanied by either red sauce, green chili sauce, cheese or mole (made from a mix of chilies and chocolate spice added to the seasoning.) There is even a sweet variety, but all the tamales are extremely appetizing. Oaxaca-style tamales are also available, which have a special flavor due to the banana leaves they are wrapped in; these also include a type of mole or red sauce typical of the same region, all with added beef or chicken. This establishment only offers meals for take-out.
Tamales Licha TOP - If you want to taste some of the best Tamales in Acapulco (ground maize rolls with a meaty sauce stuffing cooked in an envelope of their own leaves,) then make a beeline for this restaurant, which offers this succulent indigenous dish in a variety of forms. Accompanying sauces include a red tomato inspired concoction, a green tomato and chili mix, and, to really build up a thirst, a mixed chili and peanut with chocolate spice variety. Meats for these Tamales include slices of beef, chicken or pork, as well as some vegetarian and sweet options including pineapple, custard and raisins, guava and elote (cooked ears of corn.)
There are all sorts of other Mexican dishes available, and a local drink known as atole (made with corn starch and flavored with vanilla, strawberry or rice).
The place itself is a simple, characteristic-looking building that dates back to the fifties, which was the golden age of this particular Mexican Port. Open 7p-10p M-Su
Marina Club Sushi and Oyster Bar Boca Chica hotel TOP - This restaurant also includes a beach club for guests to enjoy the pleasant and tropical atmosphere it offers. A whole day filled with fun is certainly possible, the restaurant and club is on Caletilla beach inside the Boca Chica hotel, ensuring certain privacy. The restaurant offers boat service to tour Acapulco before savoring the sushi and seafood specialties. I have been there a few times and the sushi is wonderful.
Pancho Bigotes TOP - Although the name of this restaurant is very Mexican, Mexican is not the only type of food served. It is, however, the main specialty at Pancho Bigotes, which also offers a delicious breakfast buffet at a very reasonable price. The place is on the Costera, and the whole front side is a glass window, which provides a lovely view. The restaurant is divided into two stories, and if you wish, you can ask for a table on a small terrace. The furniture is simple but tasteful.
Beto Godoy Barra Vieja TOP - You cannot say you have TRULY visited Acapulco until you have visited this restaurant located in Barra Vieja. This is where the original 'talla-style' fish recipe comes from, which is grilled, dressed in an exquisite sauce that only they know how to prepare. The decoration is very comfortable and traditional, and there are also thatched parasols on the seashore where you can savor the typical dishes of Acapulco. This location also has a swimming pool, which allows you to spend a full day of fun, stopping only long enough to refuel. Open Hours 11a-7:30p M-Su
Tres Marías Pie de la Cuesta TOP - Outside of the tourist center of Acapulco, this restaurant is located between the beautiful Lagoon of Coyuca and Pie de la Cuesta beach. This location offers beautiful views and setting with a menu filled with the 'fruits of the sea'. Some of the favorite dishes here include the Fish Quesadillas, Ceviche and the Mojarra with Spicy Shrimp. After dinner, take a walk below the restaurant on the beach, and enjoy the same area where the movie 'Rambo' was filmed. I have been there and highly recommend it. Open Hours 8:30a-7p M-Su
Los Pavorreales TOP - On the shore of Tres Palos lagoon is this beautiful restaurant that serves dinner in a wonderful garden on the edge of the lagoon or on a roofed terrace. The house specialty is the Mole Enchiladas with Charro Beans, a real delicacy. The owners also offer other light Mexican dishes, beverages and desserts. A full bar is onsite. Right in front of this restaurant is the opportunity to rent almost any kind of water sport equipment. Open Hours 9a-6p Tu-Su
La Granja TOP - La Granja offers a great variety of dishes which are typical of the coast and are served by a staff that is warm and friendly. As you enter La Granja, you will find yourself under a great-sized thatched roof, to one side they have a playground and in the back there is a small lake where games are organised such as boat races, or a contest to see who can cross the lake by hanging on a rope. It also has a mini zoo where the lion, the racoon, the rabbits and monkeys are always an attraction.
Vayma TOP - At Pie de la Cuesta is not only a good place to go and relax, but also good food and wonderful staff.
Restaurante Chela TOP - (named after the owner) I just read about this restaurant on Tripadvisor.com and will see if I can find it. It is located on Costa Azul - on a side street two blocks west of the big church (the main square). Closed Mondays.
I think that I will order of cecina with enchiladas suizas, or cecina with a huarache, (both large sufficient servings) and a tomato noodle soup (aguada) and an order of sopes. Including Cervezas and a dessert should come to about $245.00 Pesos or $25.00 US.
The restaurant specializes in traditional Mexican food and has a comfortable and pleasing atmosphere. The menu contains a wide selection of entrées for around US$7 per person. You get to choose how you would like your entrée prepared as well as your side dishes. The restaurant is also a good choice for the health-conscious diner. On Sundays you can order their specialty, "mixiote" (barbequed lamb), which is a culinary treat.
Tacos & Beer TOP from the name not to hard to figure out what they offer. I believe the place is located next to Disco Beach right on the Costera and Condesa Beach. Also next to One Dollar Bar, they serve a selection of Mexican-style tacos and. . . beer! Another place that I might just check out this January!
Los Amigos for breakfast. TOP
If you are looking for a great American breakfast at a reasonable price,
Los Amigos is located in the downtown area or Zócalo and real easy to find. As you walk into the Zócalo area toward the church take the second little alley or street to the left and Los Amigos is right there on the left so to speak as the seating area is right in the alley way. In front of the alley you will see a newsstand, Los Amigos is directly behind it, enjoy.
The eight of us where there with Dan and Chela, her mom and three children and Jane and I. Most of us had bacon, eggs, French toast, has browns, mixed fruit and coffee or tea and the cost was only $350.00 pesos for all of us or about $35.00 US. We will be back as it is hard to beat the price and quality of Los Amigos.
Die Bratwurst TOP
This is a small German restaurant serving great German and Mexican meals.
I believe the owners name is Wilde Hilde, or at least that is what the business card said. I think that we had the owners daughter serving us as she told us that it was her mom that did the cooking. To bad I did not get her name as she was funny. I told her that I had been told about her, she said you have, what have you been told about me,.. hehehe.
Then I told her that I better rephrase that by saying that I had been told about the restaurant and how a great place it was.. to bad I did not get her name.
It is real easy to find. If you are in front of the church at the Zócalo take the second lane to the left called La Paz. Walk right past Los Amigos, a great place for breakfast, and go three small blocks to Teniete Jose Azueta and you are there. Located at the corner of La Paz and Teniete Jose Azuete #10 Col. Centro C.P. 39300 Aca. If you are taking the Costera Miguel Aleman from the Zócalo go only two blocks and take Teniete Jose Azuete to the right.
Chez Nous TOP
This is a new restaurant for as we have not been there before.
The restaurant is located across from the Hotel Continental Plaza and on the one way street next to Galleria Diana or two streets un from Circle Diana. The restaurant is own by French folks and if I am not mistaken they are originally from Quebec. They serve Mexican and International foods, are open for breakfast from 7:30 am to 2:00 pm. And their flyer says “the best restaurant in Acapulco”, now I'm not sure that I would agree with that but the meal was very good.
They offer “happy hour” from 5:30 to 7:00 daily and a different menu every night. Sunday is their two for one deal for $200.00 pesos, Monday the night we were is their steak night with roast beef, ribs, steaks and hamburger plus all the fixings from mushrooms to carrots and a whole lot more $150.00 pesos. The salad and desert bar as also wonderful including a chocolate fountain. The cost was $150.00 pesos that include either two beers or two glasses of wine each and of course coffee with your meal.
Tuesday is their all you can eat Italian Pasta Night, Wednesday is also a two for one night $200.00 pesos, Thursday is “Special of Brochettes” $150.00 pesos, Friday is again steak night, $150.00 pesos and Saturday we are back to the all you can eat Pasta Night $150.00 pesos.
There we go another night another evening of overeating, but what can I say some eat to live where as other live to eat. Here are a few photographs of the place at http://family.webshots.com/photo/2941920640014687776KqCtQe
Cheers
